The project

Veja Mate sits in the German Exclusive Economic Zone, approximately 95 kilometres north-west of the island of Borkum. The wind farm comprises 67 Siemens SWT-6.0-154 turbines with a combined capacity of 402 MW.

Working conditions

At that distance from shore, crew transfer by vessel is impractical for routine work. Projects in this part of the German North Sea depend on service operation vessels with walk-to-work systems, or on helicopter transfer, and the logistics of keeping people offshore for extended periods shape the entire operation.

Water depths and the North Sea weather regime add further constraint. Installation windows are limited and the cost of a missed window is measured in vessel day rates.

Our involvement

Nautic Energy personnel brought marine and site management experience to the project, working in an environment where remote operation and offshore accommodation are the norm rather than the exception.
