Taiwan’s first commercial-scale offshore wind farm, located 2 to 6 kilometres off the coast of Miaoli County with 22 wind turbines.
Formosa 1 holds a particular place in the Taiwanese offshore wind industry as the country's first commercial-scale offshore wind farm. Sited 2 to 6 kilometres off Miaoli County, its 22 turbines produce 128 MW.
The project was delivered in phases, beginning with a two-turbine demonstration before the full build-out — an approach that allowed the local supply chain, regulators and marine operators to learn on a small scale first.
Formosa 1 established much of the practical groundwork for offshore wind in Taiwan: port arrangements, vessel availability, permitting routes, marine coordination practice and the working relationships between international contractors and local operators.
Projects that followed, including Formosa 2 and Formosa 4, build on what was established here.
Nautic Energy has supported the Formosa programme, and our continued presence in Taiwan traces back to this early market experience.
